ZINC>CHEMPERFECT [{ChemPerfect - WordPerfect for Chemists}] [Chemistry Macros for Corel WordPerfect v. 2.2] DESCRIPTION The ChemPerfect is a collection of WordPerfect macros. With ChemPerfect you can easily include various chemical data (e.g. citations, formulas, spectral data) in your text, because the usually burdensome process of formatting will be done "automagically" by the macros for you. Currently, you can download the versions of ChemPerfect for Corel WordPerfect 7 and 8 for Linux (and other Unices) and Corel WordPerfect 6.1, 7 and 8 for Microsoft Windows. ChemPerfect runs very well under Corel WordPerfect for Linux (GUI version for X Window System, free for non-commercial use), and probably under WordPerfect for other Unices as well. Versions of ChemPerfect for Microsoft Windows will not be developed any longer, due to known advantages of Linux operating system. Nevertheless, after minor changes it is still possible to use Unix versions of ChemPerfect macros in Microsoft Windows. Macros for Main Text Macro Name Version Desctription @abbrv.wcm Linux You can create ChemPerfect abbreviations for @abbrv-e.wcm Windows common chemical terms to speed up text entry. This macro in an enhanced version of original WordPerfect QuickCorrect abbreviations tool. You can assign this ChemPerfect macro to any key on a keyboard ([Ctrl]+[Enter] combination is recommended). For example, you can define the abbreviation "meod " so that ChemPerfect inserts fully formatted "methanol-d4" when you press [Ctrl]+[Enter]. To add a new abbreviation just edit the @abbrv.wcm file or run the supplementary @abbrv-e.wcm macro. @char.wcm Linux Inserts various chemical symbols, Windows e.g.molecular ion: M+. , triple bond : [=] , residues: C6H5 etc. @compounds.wcm Linux Using a WordPerfect feature called "Counters" Windows one can count or number anything in your document. This macro helps count compounds and display its numbers anywhere in your document. Click here for more information. . . @endnote.wcm Linux This macro is an front-end to the original Windows WordPerfect EndNote tool. Using this you can manage endnote numbers in your document. Click here for more information. . . @formula.wcm Linux Converts text string into chemical formula. Windows Just type text like C8H12NO2Se, select it, run @formula.wcm macro (or press keyboard shortcut, e.g. [Ctrl]+F) and get the formula C8H12NO2Se @info.wcm Windows Use this macro to display information about ChemPerfect !save.wcm Linux An enhanced "save" command. Contrary to the original "save" command !save.wcm works from any substructure part of document !to_btm.wcm Linux Go to bottom/top of the current page. !to_top.wcm Macros for Experimental Part Macro Name Version Desctription @_anal.wcm Windows Inserts combustion/HRMS data, e.g. calcd for C10H15N2O3 (242.34): C 25.36, H 15.87, N 19.33, found: C 25.37, H 15.90, N 20.01; HRMS (EI) m/e calcd for C12H32NO3Se (M+): 321.2561, found: 321.1543 @_bp.wcm Windows Inserts boiling point data, e.g. t. wrz. 155 °C / 20 Torr, bp 210 °C (Lit. bp 214 °C) @_ir.wcm Linux Inserts IR spectrum description in a proper Windows format, e.g. IR (KBr) cm-1 2230 (C[=]N), 1750 (C=O) etc. NOTE: for special characters, like triple bond in the cyano group, press [Ctrl]+W and select the symbol. @_mp.wcm Windows Inserts melting point data in some formats, e.g. mp 144 °C; or mp 144-147 °C (ethanol), Lit.12 mp 145-146 °C (acetone) @_ms.wcm Linux Inserts mass spectral data in a proper format, Windows e.g. MS (EI) m/z (relative intensity, %) 188 (50), 170 (5), 156 (80) @_nmr.wcm Linux Inserts NMR data in various formats, e.g. 1H Windows NMR [{sigma}] [ppm] 2.25 (3H, t, J = 7.6 Hz) 13C NMR (40 MHz, [D6]DMSO) 22.6, 58.6, 66.8 1H NMR (200 MHz, C6D6) [{sigma}] [ppm] 1.25 (2H, m, CH2CH2OH). NOTE: use the "^" special character to emphasize "H2" in CH2CH2OH. 11B NMR [{sigma}] [ppm] -11.5 (B(OH)2), 14.6 (B(CH3)2) Macros for References & Notes Macro Name Version Desctription @authors.wcm Linux Easily inserts names and initials in a proper Windows format. Just type sw [Enter] kornblum [Enter] and get Kornblum, S. W. as well as S. W. Kornblum @ref.wcm Linux Inserts citations in a proper format, e.g. J. Windows Am. Chem. Soc. 1995, 114, 2578 or J. Am. Chem. Soc.abbreviation 114, 2587 (1995). NOTE: test the macro behavior using Chem. Ber. and date between e.g. 1910 and 1990. Download The newest version of the package can be downloaded from this page (http://zinc.ichf.edu.pl/chemperfect/). INSTALLATION 1. Get " chemperfect-2.2.tar.gz" (Unix) or "cp21.zip" (Windows). 2. Go to site-wide or personal WordPerfect Macros Directory. The Macros Directory is an folder where *.wcm files are stored. You can check the location of Macros Directory using "Preferences > Files > Merge/Macro" command in WordPerfect (read the WordPerfect manual/help for more information). 3. Use " tar -xvfz chemperfect-2.2.tar.gz" (Unix) or "unzip cp21.zip" (Windows) to extract macros from the archive. Alternatively you can use any GUI program, like TkZip (Linux) or WinZip (Windows) to extract the archive file. 4. Start WordPerfect and run a ChemPerfect macro: Tools>Macro>Play, or: 5. Start WordPerfect and add the ChemPerfect macros to menu, toolbar and/or keyboard shortcuts in the usual way (read the WordPerfect manual/help for more information). EXAMPLE (adding a macro to a toolbar or Property Bar, Linux WordPerfect 8): 1. Right-click the toolbar or Property Bar, then choose Edit. 2. Select Play Macro, choose Add Macro, then specify the location, path, and filename of the one of ChemPerfect macros. 3. Choose OK. NOTE (MS Windows users only): If launguage version of your WordPerfect is not US English you may have to change a launguage definition in each of the ChemPerfect macro from "US" to proper value. You can check the launguage version of your WordPerfect using "Preferences > Enviroment > Interface" command in WordPerfect (read the WordPerfect manual/help for more information). Then you can open a macro for editing by choosing from WordPerfect menu: Tools > Macro > Edit and change the line: APPLICATION(A1; "WordPerfect"; Default; "US") NOTE: The default launguage in ChemPerfect is US English. BUGS ChemPerfect was originally writen for my own use and a lot of it is messy, so ideas on how to clean it up would be great.
